Your Choices in Hemorrhoid Treatments

There are many different hemorrhoid treatments available from homeopathic remedies to surgery. Not every option is right for everyone, but with so many to choose from most people are able to find relief. The most common treatment types are over the counter hemorrhoid remedies that will alleviate symptoms such as creams, pads, and wipes. These types of treatment will help to stop the itching, burning, and pain associated with hemorrhoids but often will not address the underlying cause. A diet change or even herbal and natural remedies usually do a better job at healing the hemorrhoids themselves and not just masking symptoms. Not all types of hemorrhoids will heal on their own or with the help of over the counter medicine, natural remedies, or diet change, however, and sometimes surgery is the only treatment option left. Thankfully for most people surgery is not necessary but it is important to know about all of your options before beginning treatment for your hemorrhoids.

Most cases of hemorrhoids will heal by themselves but the symptoms associated with them such as itching, pain, burning, and swelling are hard to deal with while they are healing. Over the counter hemorrhoid treatments will provide relief, at least temporarily, for most of these symptoms. Hemorrhoid Creams are a very common treatment and are applied directly to the area with an applicator of your finger tip. There are also many different types of medicated wipes and pads that can be used in the same way to apply medication to the affected area. Most people's hemorrhoid symptoms will respond to this type of treatment and most are gentle enough to allow the hemorrhoid to heal on their own while providing relief from irritating symptoms.

Natural remedies are also effective at helping hemorrhoids to heal. These treatments include diet changes and even things such as herbs and even apple cider vinegar. Because most cases of hemorrhoids are caused by hard stools and straining while having a bowel movement diet changes to create softer stools is a good way to help hemorrhoids heal and prevent them in the future. While softer stools will help hemorrhoids to heal, diet changes will not do much for other symptoms such as itching, pain and burning. Most people find that a combination of topical medication combined with diet changes or stool softeners to produce softer stools will help to ease symptoms as well as help hemorrhoids clear up quickly and keep them from reoccurring.

Only the most serious cases of hemorrhoids must be treated surgically. Usually only external hemorrhoids that have not healed on their own need this type of treatment, but sometimes internal hemorrhoids that have caused other complications need surgery as well. Surgical hemorrhoid treatments for external hemorrhoids include laser surgery. Sometimes a procedure called ligation is preformed where a hemorrhoid is tied off using a small band and then will dry up and drop off on its own once the blood supply is interrupted. For large and severe internal hemorrhoids, a hemorrhoididectomy is preformed to remove them.
